ANNEALING

Annealing is a process of treating metal by heating it and maintaining it above its recrystallization temperature. It increases the ductility and workability of steel parts. Annealing also prepares the steel for further heat treatment.

BENEFITS

  • Improves ductility
  • Reduces brittleness
  • Improves homogeneity in the steel
  • Refines the grain structure

Annealing is used in a wide variety of industries, including the aerospace, automotive, general-manufacturing, and energy sectors in applications where material must be made more ductile, allowing for additional processing. Parts can be annealed in a vacuum or reducing atmosphere where a bright surface finish is needed.

Steels and other metals such as copper, aluminum, and brass benefit from annealing.
