A European manufacturer of hard rock drilling tools has contracted to purchase an NX-820 gas nitrocarburizing (FNC) turnkey installation, complete with furnace, control system and technology, from Nitrex Metal Inc.

The customer found in Nitrex a dependable partner who could provide a reliable technology for improving the wear and sliding resistance of its products.

The selected NITREG®-C potential-controlled nitrocarburizing technology and customized process recipes meet the customer’s technological requirements for tool performance and reliability, while the ONC® in-process post-nitrocarburizing oxidation provides additional corrosion resistance to maximize tool longevity. The combination of these technologically superior treatments over the previously used salt-bath nitriding method will optimize the performance and cost of the applications, and achieve greater environmental compliance.

The commissioning of the Nitrex system was completed in June 2017.
