TEMPERING

Conventional or vacuum tempering is almost always required after hardening to reduce the hardness and brittleness to a desirable level. The temperature and the time of tempering yield the desired hardness level on a given material. The choice of tempering parameters depends on the material and the industrial application.

Vacuum tempering is also used on high-value products to produce a super-clean surface.

BENEFITS

  • Reduces the stress after quenching
  • Reduces the brittleness generated by only hardening/quenching
  • Increases material toughness
  • Precise control of the hardness level
