Racking
RACKING FOR TOP-LOADING SYSTEMS
A racking set is necessary for loading parts into top-loading nitriding / nitrocarburizing furnaces. Nitrex turnkey systems may be supplied with a specified number of racking sets, with a quantity of trays or baskets suitable for a given size of retort.
A minimum of two sets is recommended, to allow preparation of parts while another load is being nitrided in the furnace.
The rack columns are designed to allow quick attachment of a lifting device. One such device is normally sufficient for several racking sets.
RACKING FOR HORIZONTAL BATCH SYSTEMS
Nitrex recommends an electromechanical charge cart for loading baskets into Nitrex horizontal batch furnaces. This type of cart was developed for easier and safer loading of the baskets and specifically modified to the dimensions of our furnace so as to avoid possible damage of the furnace liner when loading / unloading the baskets.
Ammonia Gas Dissociator
Nitriding o
f certain alloys may require an addition of hydrogen to the nitriding atmosphere, which in some cases improves the control of nitriding potential. However, additions of pure hydrogen are not practical.
Instead, the hydrogen is supplied as a gas mixture composed of 75% molecular hydrogen and 25% molecular nitrogen). Such a mixture is produced through a complete dissociation of ammonia using an ammonia dissociator. When this device is heated above 930 ºC (1706 ºF), the ammonia flowing through a catalyst-filled retort dissociates into hydrogen and nitrogen.
A dissociator, suitably modified and integrated into the control system, may be installed as part of the turn-key package. It is an optional piece of equipment that allows a greater variety of highly refined processes to be carried out.
Accelerated-Cooling System
Nitrex nitriding / nitrocarburizing furnaces are equipped with a standard load-cooling system, which draws in ambient air and circulates it around the retort by means of an external cooling fan.
To further reduce cooling time, an optional Nitrex Accelerated Cooling System is available. The main component of this system is an internal cooling coil, which forms part of the furnace cover assembly and is directly in the path of the atmosphere circulation generated by the internal turbine. During the cooling stage, the water flowing through the coil cools the furnace atmosphere, and thus the load. The compounded effect of standard and accelerated cooling can significantly shorten the cooling stage.
The shortened cooling time also has the advantage of a faster lead and delivery time, as well as improved furnace utilization, which lead to important cost savings.
Nitrex Exhaust Gas Neutralizers for Environmentally Friendly Operations
Exhaust gases emanating from any type and make of furnace that uses ammonia gas or other equipment with ammonia containing exhaust gas hold residual ammonia, nitrogen, hydrogen, and small amounts of water vapor. The outgoing gases are either directly vented to the atmosphere, or neutralized to decompose the residual ammonia, depending on your companys requirements and/or local regulations. Without neutralization, effluent gases pollute the environment, with detrimental consequences to the ozone layer.
Closed-Loop Cooling Water System
Nitrex offers a series of water cooling systems for small and large equipment cooling needs. These are efficient, closed-loop systems circulating cooling water to plant equipment like furnaces, presses, and other thermal processing equipment.

Closed-Loop Water Cooling System for Furnaces with Accelerated Cooling
The Nitrex closed-loop water cooling system is an add-on accessory to the accelerated cooling option on Nitrex NX and NXH series nitriding / nitrocarburizing furnaces. It’s an external system that provides a controlled, stable supply of clean water to the cooling coils of the furnace’s accelerated cooling internal heat exchanger.
