Die Preheat Ovens

The Nitrex Die Preheating System safely preheats nitrided aluminum extrusion dies in a protective gas atmosphere, prior to placing them in presses. The key benefit is the properly controlled preheating process that prevents excessive oxidation of the die surface even if it is left in the preheating oven for extended periods of time. Once a die is loaded and its preheating cycle selected, the computer takes over all further operations until the die is ready to be unloaded.

A recent Nitrex study, undertaken to optimize the conditions of preheating, analyzed the effects of holding H13 steel in air and nitrogen at temperatures in the range from 450 to 600°C (842 to 1112°F) and times from 1 to 25 hours. It demonstrated that preheating the dies in a protective atmosphere of nitrogen could significantly reduce the deterioration of the surface.
