Bending Tools Producer Installs Nitriding System

Nitrex Metal shipped a compact nitriding system to the European subsidiary of US tube bending tools manufacturer OMNI-X. The model NXK-409 furnace with a workload capacity of 660-lb (300 kg) will be used to nitride tube bending tooling such as bend dies, clamp dies, and pressure dies. The complete NXK system also includes integrated automation and NITREG® control technology programmed for alloy steel materials, which will increase tool hardness and wear resistance resulting in improved tool durability and bending quality. This is a plug-and-play system preassembled at the factory to achieve faster implementation times and lower installation costs to the customer. The system was installed at the Brno, Czech Republic facility.

Xi'An Aero-Engine Places Second Order for Nitrex Nitriding System

Nitrex Metal received a follow-on order from Xi’An Aero-Engine Group, a manufacturer of turbojet and turbofan engines and gas turbines. The Nitreg®-S type nitriding system will be delivered in the second half of 2011 and used for processing stainless steel aero parts as well as Nitralloy and alloy steel components. The furnace, with a work zone measuring 32 x 59 inches (800 x 1500 mm), has a maximum load weight of 3300 lbs (1500 kg) and is equipped with an Ammonia Dissociator for delivery of process gases only as needed and a Neutralizing System to meet emission standards. This order complements a previous system delivered to Xi’An nine years ago and will support the company’s production expansion efforts. With this order, Nitrex will have shipped 20 systems to China since its very first sale back in 2002.

Young Startup Extruders Add Nitriding

Nitrex Metal received orders for its NXK-series compact nitriding system from two newly formed aluminum extrusion companies. In the latter half of 2011 Venezuela-based ALUDEMA C.A. will add a NXK-409 to its production of window and door profiles for residential applications. This is a plug-and-play system preassembled at the factory to achieve faster implementation times and lower installation costs for the customer. The furnace, which will be used to nitride H13 dies, features an effective load size of 16” x 35.5” (400mm x 900mm) with a 660-pound (300 kg) capacity. Additionally, Nitrex Metal delivered earlier this month an identical system to AFS, a Moroccan cast iron foundry belonging to Delta Holding that recently diversified its business operations to include non-ferrous metals, and more specifically aluminum extrusion services. The new facility built adjacent to the original foundry in Skhirat will produce architectural profiles for the residential and office construction market, and will have its own foundry for billet casting. The packaged NXK system will also include integrated automation and Nitreg® control technology programmed for H13 tooling.

Aircraft MRO Provider Orders Nitrex Nitriding System

Nitrex Metal will supply a NX-811 Nitreg®-S type system to Wuhan Hangda, a leading MRO service provider for aircraft components in China. The packaged system comes complete with a vacuum purge system to accelerate the nitriding process and an INS series neutralizer to meet environmental compliance. The system also complies with Wuhan Hangda’s requirement for “zero white layer” nitriding of aftermarket aircraft parts made of Nitralloy and 17-7 PH stainless steels. Start-up is scheduled for the second quarter 2011.

Automotive Parts Supplier Places a Reorder of Nitrex Nitriding Systems

A leading manufacturer of OE and aftermarket automotive parts has once again selected Nitrex Metal to supply turnkey nitriding systems for its piston rings facilities in Europe. The pair of NX-1015 systems, which include Nitreg®-S technology for “zero white layer” nitriding, is expected to help the company meet its increasing production output while maintaining the dimensional stability of the stainless steel and cast iron piston rings. The systems are scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2011. To date Nitrex has installed and commissioned more than 15 nitriding systems in piston ring manufacturing facilities worldwide.

Industrial Gas Manufacturer Orders Nitrex Metal Neutralizing Systems

Nitrex Metal shipped two pairs of ammonia (NH3) neutralizing systems to an industrial gases supplier in Asia for their newly-constructed facilities supplying high-purity bulk ammonia to the electronics industry for use in light emitting diodes (LEDs) production. This is the first major application outside of the field of heat treating using Nitrex neutralizing systems for emission control. Each supplied pair consists of a primary and a secondary IN-1000 high-efficiency neutralizer for increased reliability of operations. Under normal operation, the primary unit operates as the on-line neutralizing system, and during periods of higher demand or in the event of failure, the secondary neutralizer will support the critical flow for 24/7 uptime. Each IN-1000 is rated for a capacity of 2120 cubic feet per hour (1000 liters per minute).

Phase 2 of Nitrocarburizing Project for Gear Maker Nanjing Gear Co. Completed

Nitrex Metal completed phase 2 of a 4-phase nitrocarburizing project for Chinese industrial gear maker Nanjing High Speed & Accurate Gear Co. (NGC). The project is part of a major NGC expansion program, which the company embarked on in 2008 when it opened two new large-scale manufacturing facilities for the expanded production of its high-speed and heavy-duty gears. The scope of supply includes multiple nitrocarburizing systems based on a common horizontal-loading chamber furnace platform. To date, 8 turnkey systems have been successfully installed and commissioned at the Nanjing plant. Nitrex’s involvement is in the front-end engineering phase of the NGC project, including system and process control design, licensing of Nitreg®-C nitrocarburizing technology, as well as onsite operation and testing of the systems. Nitreg®-C technology was chosen by NGC for its compliance to AGMA 923 metallurgical specification for steel gearing. In addition, NGC chose the Protherm 9800 production management software supplied by Marathon Monitors Beijing, a member of United Process Control, to perform data acquisition, recipe management, and monitoring of the Nitrex nitriding systems as well as 3 preheat ovens and 2 parts washers. When NGC builds up its manufacturing in subsequent phases, the extensible architecture of the Protherm 9800 will accommodate additional furnaces and other controlled equipment. Phase 3 will be fully completed in 2011.

Nitrex Supplies Nitriding System to Chinese Auto Parts Company

Chongqing Hongjiang Machinery Co. Ltd., a Chinese producer of engine fuel injection systems, has received shipment of a turnkey nitriding system supplied by Nitrex Metal Inc. The NX-1015 includes Nitreg® nitriding and Nitreg®-C nitrocarburizing technologies to automatically control treatments for fuel injector assembly parts as well as transmission parts made of Nitralloy, tool steels, high grade steels, and other specialty steels. The system also houses an Ammonia Dissociator for just-in-time delivery of process gases at a low cost and a Neutralizing System to eliminate residual ammonia and to meet local environmental targets. Presently Chongqing Hongjiang operates several nitriding furnaces using ammonia dissociation burettes to monitor and control the processes. However, due to the production of more sophisticated automotive part designs and tougher specification demands, the company chose Nitrex to meet their need for more tightly controlled nitriding/nitrocarburizing.
